Experience
12 years of tutoring experience in all subject areas. For the past several years I have focused specifically on the humanities and social sciences as well as reading skills and techniques, however I have also tutored students in mathematics and sciences. I have two years of classroom experience specifically teaching reading skills to children and adults of all ages for a private reading company. I also have 2 years of classroom experience teaching undergraduate level anthropology classes. I love teaching and working with students and parents. Currently I am working on my Masters thesis in anthropology and am looking to continue staying involved with students through part time tutoring. My goal is to teach at a small college with my focus on students. My research goals involving local food development are secondary to helping my own students succeed. I work with all ages to provide individualized tutoring sessions ranging from study skills and speed reading to writing and comprehension. Speed Reading- I work with junior high, high school, college age and adults on speed reading and skimming techniques. My junior high school students leave my long term sessions (at least 5 sessions spread out over 2-5 weeks) ith a minimal of 150 words per minute increase in their hardest reading materials and 200 words per minute increase in less difficult reading while maintaining and improving comprehension. My high school, college age and adult students can double their reading speed in difficult reading material and even triple their reading speed in fiction while maintaining and improving comprehension.
